Prestige Galore at the Zoute Grand Prix
See and be seen - the infamous motto of Knokke-Zoute's "Place M'as tu Vu" - forms the perfect catchphrase for BElgium's top automotve event. now in its eighth edition, it rivals europe's other top concours events.
The mighty roars of Ferraris, Porsches, Maseratis and Lamborghinis meandering through the streets of Belgium's top coastal resort reminded me of a previous stay at the Grosvernor House in Dubai Marina, where highrises continuously reverberate the sound of revving engines like a Formula One race, and spectators eagerly wait to see what is coming around the corner.
Over 100,000 visitors admired the sounds and sights of some of the world's most prestigious automobiles, as the Grand Prix offered the opportunity to watch the start and arrival of the Zoute Rally, the Zoute GT Tour and the Zoute Concours d'Elegance, while Bonhams was present for the Zoute Sale. It was the fifth year that the auction house partnered with the Knokke-based event, and this year's piece-de-resistance was the last available 2017 Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet, one of 99 built and offered directly from the Mercedes-Benz factory and sold for a world record €1,200,000 with all proceeds benefitting the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.
Meanwhile, spectators were wowed with the Zoute Rally's flying 1/4 mile and the Zoute GT Sprint, both of which added significantly to the excitement of the event. Over at the Zoute Golf Club over 100 unique marques presented themselves at the Concours d'Elegance, with the Best of Show awarded to a 1964 'James Bond' Aston Martin DB5 from the Louwman Collection. Also noteworthy was the gathering BMW 507's, as part of this year's featured marque.
Throughout town, 14 exclusive car manufacturers displayed their latest additions, allowing visitors to see the latest cars, while on their way to the bars and restaurants. This after all remains the country of "Burgundy-style" food lovers, who will go anywhere as long as it can be combined with great food and tantalizing beverages.
